Fellaini Retires from CSL Due to Injury

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has announced his retirement from the Chinese Super League (CSL) due to injury.

The Belgian international, who joined Shanghai Shenhua in January last year, had been suffering from a back problem for some time and it was confirmed by the club on Wednesday that he would not be fit enough to continue playing.

"Fellaini's career with Shanghai Shenhua has come to an end after a serious back injury," the club said in a statement.

"Marouane has decided to retire from football to focus on his health and recovery."

The 29-year-old had made just four appearances for the club this season before being ruled out indefinitely.

He had previously played for Manchester United, Everton and Chelsea during his career.

Injuries have been a regular feature of Fellaini's time at Shanghai Shenhua, with the club having suffered several setbacks in recent years.

But the Belgian still managed to make an impact during his time in China, helping them to win the CSL title in 2016-17.

Despite the setback, Fellaini remains a highly respected figure in Chinese football and will be remembered fondly by fans in the country.
